About
I attended St. Brigit's Secondary School in my hometown of
Tuam, Co. Galway and applied for the degree in Information
Technology at NUI, Galway. Having been successful in my application,
I spent the next four years from 1997 to 2001 as a student
of the IT department at NUI, Galway, where I graduated with
a first class honours degree. Subsequently, I applied for
a Masters Degree in Applied Computing with the before mentioned
department. Upon acceptance, I began my research in October
2001.
Industrial experience in the
IT field comprises my placement with aimware Ltd. who are
based in Galway. [See www.aimware.com ] I had exposure to
the Lotus Notes architecture and LotusScript programming,
along with some VBA, XML and XML Schema programming.
Between finishing my exams and starting at the IT Department
again, I gained some teaching experience at a pleasant and
progressive community school in Dunmore, Co. Galway where
I taught Business Studies, general computing and ECDL to adults.

Research Interests
My
primary research interests revolve around that of my involvement
within the X-ESS project. The fan out from there is very broad
with interests diverging into anything web services, graph
drawing, XML based applications, well designed user interfaces
and practical software engineering. Further a field, is my
interest in information retrieval systems and website design.
Projects
I
am a member of the X-ESS project within the ECRG. The project
is officially titled an XML-Based Expert System Shell for
Distributed Agent Intelligence. Although this project consists
of many areas and phases, the Rule Builder component is my
primary responsibility. This is a tool that will enable the
graphical creation rules.
